Wyatt celebrated his 6th birthday this week. June 18, is his special day. He dressed for the occasion and let me know what he thought about his festive attire by giving some serious side eye.

Wyatt took it all in stride and was very accommodating about selfies and other silly photos taken of him.

Rudy decided he wanted no part of the birthday festivities.

That’s OK, Rudy. We’ll save the party hat and the Birthday Boy ribbon for when you turn 6, on December 8.
Rudy and Wyatt have been part of our family for a little over three years now. They are healthy, happy boys who love us very much and have really come into their own.

We feel that we are in the sweet spot of dog ownership with them in that they are young enough to have good energy and to be in good health. They are also old enough to be trusted to not destroy things anymore when we leave the house.
Wyatt still has a bit of a shoe fetish, but now it’s enough just to have some of our shoes near him when we go out.

Quite a different story three years ago. We would frequently come home to a scene like this after an evening out.

Rudy and Wyatt were only 2-years old when we adopted them in March of 2021. They were among the last racing greyhounds to leave the track in Florida when the racing ban took effect there on January 1, 2021.
They’ve come so far and learned so much about living in a home. They are such a big part of our lives now and we couldn’t love them more.
They seem to love us too as evidenced by the wake-up kisses they gave Eric on Fathers Day last week.

They enjoy traveling with us too. We took our boys with us to Walla Walla for a wine safari in February.

They enjoyed their stay at the Finch, which is a lovely hotel and is dog-friendly.

The weather was superb, especially for late February. So the guys got to join us at some outdoor wine tastings.

Back home in the Methow Valley, Rudy and Wyatt have a new friend in the neighborhood. Lewis is a lovely black lab puppy.

It’s a fun time when Lewis and his parents come out for a visit. We haven’t seen them for a few weeks now, and it will be fun to see how much Lewis has grown next time he is here.
The last year has truly been a sweet spot with our dogs. I wish we could bottle these days with them and that they would always stay like they are now.

Rudy finally learned how to cockroach earlier this year.

And Wyatt is still the king of the pretzel legs.

We know they can’t be frozen in time…and we really do want them to grow old and be senior dogs with us for a long time. But we are grateful for this sweet spot that Rudy and Wyatt are in right now.
